Every year, approximately 400 volunteers contribute nearly 9,000 hours to help Asbury Woods thrive. Volunteers with all skill sets can contribute to the mission and success of Asbury Woods.

Whether you’re looking to volunteer alone or with your family or a group, want to contribute a few hours per year or a few hours per week, our volunteer coordinator, Rachel Hull, would love to chat with you about matching your interests and availability to Asbury Woods needs.

camp assistant

Summer Camp Assistants

Camp Assistants are volunteers who help Camp Counselors during summer camps offered by Asbury Woods. This position is an opportunity for those who are selected to gain practical experience working with children, develop teambuilding skills, meet new people, learn about nature, and earn service hours. Those who are 14+ are able to apply. To do so, please fill out this application. Be sure to also create a Volunteer Matrix profile by clicking on the “Volunteer Opportunities” tab and then “New Volunteer Registration.” Adult volunteers do not need to fill out an application but will need to have their clearances.

All camp assistants will need to attend a volunteer training that will be announced soon.

Volunteer Education Assitant

Volunteer Education Assistant

One of the pillars of Asbury Woods is environmental education. This is an opportunity for our volunteers who are 18+ and have their clearances. Volunteers should be upbeat, like working with children, be able to stand and/or walk for at least 60 minutes, and be well prepared to lead activities during school visits both inside and outdoors. Shifts are available throughout April and May.

Visitor Services

Responsibilities include greeting visitors, answering the phone, answering visitors' inquiries, making suggestions for activities to do while visiting Asbury Woods, registering people for programs, and running the register in the gift shop.

Program Helper pic

Program Helper

There is something for everyone with Asbury Woods’ public programs including hikes, homeschool programs, family-friendly events, preschool programs, and craft-making. Volunteers will assist our education staff during the program as well as with set-up and clean-up. Age requirements for helpers vary from program to program but range from 14 to adult.

1Adult Animal Care

Adult Animal Care Training

Adult volunteers are invited to learn how to assist with caring for Asbury Woods’ animals. Volunteers will learn how to clean enclosures and facilities, feed animals, and handle some animals. All work with animals will be done under the supervision of an Asbury Woods staff member. Volunteers should dress in clothes that can get messy.
